| The mountain range 'La Albera'Is declared as a Natural Park of national interest. In it's interior you have a large area of leafy forest. The part near the sea and due to it's influence, is formed of scrubland and steppe. It stands out as a chromatic sierra with it's aromatic plants of large variety. Another reason for the importance of the fauna is the presence of the wellknown mediterranean tortoise. Also important megalithic discoveries were made in this area. |

| A visit to FigueresBeing the capital of this region it is an important centre for tourism, culture, commerce and service. The outstanding area without cars in the center is also the starting point of the 'Dali Route', which starts in the Theater - Museum of 'Salvador Dali', then followed by theTower 'Galatea', 'Castillo de Púbol', the Residence in Cadaques and finally the Residence at 'The Port-Ligat'. Figueres displays as well the 'Toy Museum', el 'Museum of the Empordà' and the 'Garden Theatre'. |
The area 'Costa Brava'Here you can visit the well conserved greco romanesque ruins 'Empuries' facing the mediterranean sea. The complex contains a museum which is interesting to gain a better understanding of life then and of the discoveries they had made. The coast allows opportunities to visit the typical fishing villages like Roses, Escala and Cadaques, alternating with beautiful beaches where vegetation grows down to the sea or impressive rocky precipices. | GastronomyTo get a taste of the local wines and champagnes have a look at one of the co-operative wine cellars situated fron the village of Capmany up to Roses. Typical of this area as well is olive oil, in the villages 'Espolla' and 'Pau'. It is made from hundred year old olive trees. Then you have 'Anchovies' which are famous from the coastal village 'Escala'. They are preserved in salty water and are apreciated by many people. Dishes like 'Suquets y Cazuelas de pescado', are based on fish which are found in the whole area. |
